Tris started in journalism by editing Reading University’s student newspaper, Spark (with Tom Sandars, BBC). After graduating with a BA in psychology, he travelled around the world for a year. On his return he was hired as a reporter on the Wokingham Times (weekly broadsheet) before being promoted to its sister publication the Reading Evening Post (daily tabloid). While at the Post, he qualified as a senior journalist with the National Council for the Training of Journalists. He moved to the Pink Paper in December 2000 and became editor in September 2001. He appears regularly as a commentator on gay issues in the national press, radio and on TV. He still loves to travel, but now he’s a journalist he hasn’t paid for a holiday in about a decade.

Peter joined the Pink Paper in February 2008. An English Language graduate, he began his career as a freelance journalist before becoming Editor of Manchester’s Official City Guide, 2004. Eighteen months later, in Spring 2005, he relocated to London where he joined Madonna’s UK press company, MBC, as the firm’s sole Staff Writer - remaining there for three years. Originally from Liverpool, he is – alas – not a blood relative of Sonia, Holly Johnson or The Beatles, but has been to Brookside Close.

Darren joined the Pink Paper as a regional correspondent in June 2006, before busying himself with the lives and loves of celebrities and all things entertainment related. A journalism honours graduate, he recently relocated from Scotland where he contributed to a number of publications before being lured by the bright lights and big city [London]. When he was little he wanted to be Doctor Who’s assistant and is still waiting to be picked up by a man in a strange blue box.

Fernando is our Mac-maniac. He divides his time between maintaining our Macs and being our designer. He led the Pink Paper redesign into newspaper, and if you don’t like the design of this website, you should blame him too. When his fingers are away from the keyboard, you can find him listening to Medieval music or reading books about astronomy and theoretical physics. Born and bred Spanish, he has a degree in philosophy and theology, speaks five languages and used to be a monk.

Scott began his career as a freelance photographer while studying at the London College of Printing. He graduated with a BA in graphics and illustration 2002 and immediately turned his photography into a full-time career. His photos of news and celebrity’s have appeared in several national newspapers, glossy magazines, news websites and regularly works at charity events. He also illustrates for Pink Paper and is currently working on a private exhibition of his work. A south London boy, he was born and bred (and, sadly, still lives) in Elephant and Castle, but owns neither.

Jeni joined the Pink Paper in June 2006, after graduating in journalism and while also working as communications officer for the Lesbian and Gay Foundation in Manchester. She spent two successful years providing the paper with up-to-the-minute news from around the North West but has now moved on to be the title’s sports correspondent. Originally from Blackpool but now living in Manchester with a short stint in London in 2002 you could say that Jeni has been around a bit... but in a good way of course!

David joined the Pink Paper in August 2008, in the shiny new role of Student Editor. A multi-media journalism student at Bournemouth University, he splits his time between the beach, the bars and his bed… with the occasional bit of work. He has worked with daily newspaper The Southend Echo, and plans to become a travel journalist or entertainment writer. An Essex boy born and bred, he spent the last few years studying performing arts. Yes he did ballet, and no he didn’t wear tights.

Marianna began her advertising sales career in 1988, after graduating from City of London University with a
BSc in psychology. She worked for Haymarket Publishing, then Centaur Communications Plc on a variety of market leading publications such as Campaign, Marketing Week, Precision Marketing, Televisual and Creative Review. She has been with the Pink Paper since July 2005, but prior to joining, she launched the ad sales department of g3 magazine in 2003. After she joined Pink Paper, she went back to the g3 crew in October 2006 to help launch Out in The City, but couldn’t resist returning to Pink Paper in January 2008 to head up the advertising sales focussing on diversity recruitment and display advertising. She has captained the Hertfordshire Ladies County Pool Team, and was then a member of the Greater London County Ladies Pool Team. She lives and breathes music in her spare time, and you will often see her DJ at London’s largest and longest-running women’s night club, Rumours at Minories. And she won’t let us forget that back in 2006 she managed to get to the second round of the X Factor.

Gail’s media sales career began post university when she upped sticks and moved to London from Glasgow to sell advertising space for the Herald and Evening Times newspapers. She joined Millivres in April 2008 via stints in Emap, Cmpi and Associated Newspapers. With a background in both on and offline advertising Gail is keen to ensure that Millivres continues to provide outstanding opportunities for clients to promote their products as the market changes. With a keen interest politics, creative writing, Scrabble and spread-betting, she is also studying for a BA in history part-time at Birkbeck to keep the grey cells stimulated.

Kim has extensive media, management, sales and marketing experience gained from 21 years of working in mainstream and niche publishing industries. She has worked within gay media for the last 17 years and has been instrumental in engineering the growth of gay media business, which includes working for the Pink Paper on two occasions in her career. Her first job in publishing, whilst still at university was an editor’s assistant on Pins and Needles magazine. Upon graduating she then crossed over to advertising sales at The Times and Sunday Times before working as advertising manager and then commercial director on Pink Paper and Boyz. Kim joined Millivres Ltd in 1994 as director of marketing, and was appointed to the Millivres Board in 1998. In the little spare time she has she is a very responsible civilly-partnered mum and a totally irresponsible guitarist!

Raj began her career as personal assistant to senior directors at Viking Johnson (leaders in pipe joints and repair products) and after a few years she moved to Hampshire working for a company specialising in artificial intelligence. She joined MPG in 2000 as marketing assistant, and has since progressed to group marketing manager, overseeing all marketing and communications activity for MPG’s media portfolio comprising Pink Paper, GT, DIVA, AXM and Puffta. Raj holds the Chartered Institute of Marketing professional Diploma in Marketing. It’s no secret but Raj has a phobia of animals; dogs, cats, flies, pigeons etc, all of which seem to be drawn to her.

After graduating in English Literature from Warwick in 2007, Patrick relocated to London and has been part of the marketing team at Millivres Prowler since January 2008. Patrick spent his university days writing and volunteering. He worked for the student LGBT society, and now volunteers for Pride London. Patrick now deals with Pink Paper distribution and marketing. Sadly, this ex-student struggles to maintain a work hard play hard lifestyle, and is now most likely to be found asleep in nightclubs.

David joined Millivres Prowler Group in May 2007 as marketing executive (media brands), straight out of university where he graduated with a first class degree. Whilst studying, David juggled a number of freelance, voluntary and full time jobs, working for a number of high profile organisations including ethical cosmetics company Lush, the UK’s biggest Pride event and the worlds most iconic fashion magazine. Originally from Yorkshire, (via South Africa and New York), David was a member of the GB ski team when he was just six years old.

Following a pointless degree and a few years of aimless McJobs, Alexander leapt into the cut-throat media arena, spending over six years clambering up the career ladder at an international publisher which specialised in publications aimed at visitors to various cities of the world. He joined the Pink Paper team in the summer of 2005 when he became design and production manager for MPG’s publishing portfolio.

Tarak joined the Pink Paper design team in Christmas 2006, a great present for us in the form of a lovable personality! Self trained in the art of design, he’s brought a fresh and youthful attitude to Pink Paper’s advertising sections. A must have for any design team!

A Chartered Accountant, Claire joined the company in January 2007 as finance director. Before joining, she held a similar role in another London-based SME. In the four years there, she co-developed the company’s strategy, which ultimately led to an MBO and £21m of Private Equity investment. Claire graduated from Birmingham University in 1993 with an honours degree in maths and then joined Baker Tilly, a top-10 firm of chartered accountants. There, her client portfolio included the makers of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?, IKEA and Bob Monkhouse. In spring 2007, Claire won the Finance Director of the Year Award for Growth Business, in recognition of work done in her former company. Claire is currently treasurer for the Central London Samaritans.

Chris is a founding director of the Millivres Prowler Group of companies and has been part of this multimedia, multi-channel, diverse portfolio business since the heady days of 1972 and the start of the liberation of the gay and lesbian community in Britain. He is a past chairman of the Gay Business Association of the United Kingdom and former member of National Advisory Group on police liaison. Chris is part of the team that has overseen the growth of the Millivres Prowler Group from very humble beginnings to become one of the largest and longest surviving companies serving the gay and lesbian community in the world. Pink Paper is very much part of that making of history.

Andrew joined the Pink Paper in February 2005 as a correspondent for the North West region. His “day job” is as communications manager with the Lesbian and Gay Foundation where he has worked since 2000. It is this connection that enables Andrew to report on many stories that often don’t make the national gay press. Having originally spent his early career working in theatre wardrobe (he can run up a lovely period outfit in next to no time) it is the drama and glitz of the LGBT sector that now keeps him busy.

Steve has been writing arts, travel and news features for the Pink Paper since 2002 and covering the South Coast “patch” since 2006. Based in Brighton, Steve writes for a wide range of magazines and newspapers and also makes regular radio appearances, reviewing arts and media. Steve can be found performing as a stand-up comic at pubs and comedy clubs around the UK. His favourite joke involves a salami, a member of the Conservative Party and a bottle of poppers. It is far too filthy to print here but it got him a big laugh in Margate.

Just like his birth sign, Gemini, Haydn claims to be one of twins – yet thank god, he admits, there is only one of him! When he started out as a journalist pens had hardly been invented let alone thoughts of PCs or the internet. He’s glad they have done away with sending copy by pigeon as catching them proved quite difficult and often messy! Why a twin? Haydn, under a different name (his middle name) runs a national gay monthly magazine for men – simply far too rude to mention here. He has been writing for Pink Paper since its re-launch as a newspaper. He’s also written a top-selling book.

Hannah is a freelance theatre director and writer, she’s the artistic director of Pink Space Theatre Company and Birmingham Library Theatre Company. She is a performing arts lecturer and an arts reporter for BBC WM. Hannah joined the Pink Paper in May 2008 as the Midlands and East Correspondent. “It’s not what I do, but the way I do it. It’s not what I say, but the way I say it!”

Carrie has longed for a career in journalism since she was a child, a romantic notion based around The New Adventures of Superman and Newround’s Press Pack. This dream took to her to Edinburgh to study journalism at the city’s Napier University from where she’ll graduate in July 2008. A new addition to the team, she joined the Pink Paper in June 2008. She likes good grammar, ruining yawns and hummus. She dislikes swearing for the sake of it, gin and small talk.

After studying graphic design at Great Yarmouth College of Art, Ricky moved to London where he started working as a freelance cartoonist for DC Thompson and IPC on their line of children’s comics. Frustrated with having to illustrate other peoples scripts (and drawing endless plates of bangers and mash), he started developing his own characters and storylines, including the long running Up Queer Street which first appeared in the Pink Paper in 1999. Another comic creation Albion Hospital can be found regularly in the pages of plusVE magazine and over the years his cartoons have appeared in books, advertising and on numerous greetings cards. As well as his humour work Ricky also produces fine art illustrations and photographic images and more recently medical diagrams for various pharmaceutical companies. Ricky’s proud to say he’s never done a proper days work in his life and doesn’t own any Kylie Minogue CDs.

Martin is a broadcaster and journalist. He works mainly in TV and radio but writes travel features for the Pink Paper. He joined the BBC as a graduate trainee but has worked for all the major news broadcasters including ITN and Sky. He’s worked as newscaster for BBC News 24, BBC World, Sky News and Channel Five News as well as reporting for BBC One’s political programme On the Record. Despite being a devote agnostic he also reported for the BBC’s religious programme Heaven and Earth.

Sam joined the Pink Paper back in October 2007 and also writes for AXM magazine. He is currently serving in the British Armed Forces with the Royal Navy where he holds the rate of Leading Physical Trainer. He joined the Royal Navy at 16 and has now served close to eight years all over the world. Due to leave the Armed Forces in February, Sam hopes to pursue his ambitions as a personal trainer to the stars. Before doing that he will continue to build his expanding reputation working as senior PT at a weight loss bootcamp in Taunton. In his personal life Sam enjoys football, rugby, water polo and swimming. Sam also boasts he is the 1992 English Schools 100m Flip Flop Sprint Champion and Armed Forces Egg and Spoon Champion!
