Your newspaper and website

Pink Paper is Britain’s only national lesbian, gay and bisexual newspaper and the biggest circulating gay publication of any kind in the country.

But it’s unique in many more ways than that. While it’s one of the oldest queer titles, founded in 1987, it now has one of the country’s most modern gay websites and we were the first title in the market to put citizen journalists at the forefront of what we do, through our innovative Your.PinkPaper.com site.

Like the print product, the online version leads on news but has plenty more to offer including our Wiki.PinkPaper.com gay encyclopedia. And, of course, the website features all the arts, culture and travel coverage you’d expect from Pink Paper including all our big name celebrity interviews.

Reflecting our role as the community’s newspaper, we don’t carry gratuitous sexual imagery in print or digitally – clearly distinguishing us from most competing titles and sites.

This policy, together with our wide national reach and our strong mixed male and female readership (another unique Pink Paper feature) make the title the natural home for recruitment advertising and we are proud to have a formidable reputation in this field. Vacancies advertised in our jobs section in the paper and online at Jobs.Pink Paper.com are backed up with jobs news articles, profiles of companies and advice and guidance for students and professionals who want to further their careers.

The printed version of the paper published fortnightly in a tabloid format and available free. Distribution is via gay clubs and bars, restaurants, cafes, community centres, libraries, businesses and big employers, local authorities and a range of other venues. You can locate a distribution venue by clicking on one of the “Find a copy” links on the website. You can also download a PDF version of all recent editions and even apply online to be a distributor.

Pink Paper is the only title in the gay market which leads on news. Our reputation for news has been built up over two decades. We are unique in the gay media in having regional correspondents across England, Scotland and Wales allowing us to cover stories which directly impact on our readers across the country. Our news section has a reputation for breaking stories and covers everything from crime to TV and from politics to the latest celebrity gossip. You can read all our stories at News.PinkPaper.com.

We are the only gay title in Britain with a dedicated sports section. We encourage contributions from gay, lesbian and bisexual teams and sportsmen and women across the country. Pink Sport leads the back part of the paper and is available digitally through the News.PinkPaper.com part of our site.

Our comment section incorporates our leaders (the “voice” of the paper), a topical cartoon and an article from a guest writer. Guest columnists have included priests and politicians, drag queens and scene queens, scientists and celebrities, journalists and jokers.

Pink Paper’s lifestyle section, Life etc, is a guide to making the most of your free time for lesbians, gays and bisexuals with an emphasis on the “alternative”. The cornerstone of the section is our celebrity interviews which over the last two years have included Kathleen Turner, Annie Lennox, French and Saunders, Dannii Minogue, Ian McKellen, Sophie Ellis Bextor, Julian Clary, Armistead Maupin and many more.

The section also features previews, film, music and other reviews, picture spreads, in-depth articles and listings. Our take on modern queer culture can range from clubbing to opera and from food to fashion.

The food and drink section was started in summer 2008 but has already become well recognised and established. We know our readers are interested in quality food and drink and enjoy the best whether they are at home or, as they often are, out and about. The section typically includes a restaurant review, cocktail recipe and taste tests on food and drink. We regularly work with leading names in food including Fortnum and Mason, Harrods, Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Waitrose and other top suppliers.

Our travel section covers foreign and domestic travel with an emphasis on interesting experiences. Our writers have cooked in Michelin starred restaurants, swum with sharks, gone paragliding and still had time for some sightseeing before breakfast. We also cover travel news to tell readers the latest about hot new destinations, bargains and other developments.

Pink Paper believes in interacting with readers and has a lively letters page. This draws from our traditional post-bag and our modern online forums and letters facility (at Your.PinkPaper.com – we’d love to hear from you so have a look and a chat with us and our other readers today). Our print-version letters page also features a vox pop, a profile of a gay club or society (called Groupie) and the funniest gay cartoon strip ever – Up Queer Street.

Pink Paper is very much owned by it’s readers and it’s now possible for anyone to log in to Your.PinkPaper.com and write their own news, lifestyle, culture and comment articles which appear on the Your homepage. This site is breaking new ground in gay citizen journalism and we encourage you to help us make it a success by taking part.

Another way to contribute is to write and edit articles on our lesbian, gay and bisexual encyclopedia, Wiki.PinkPaper.com. This has been started with hundreds of articles from the Knitting Circle, written by academics at South Bank University.

The original team behind Knitting Circle was no-longer able to update the site regularly so we worked with them to save it and turn this useful resource into an modern, interactive site which we hope will become invaluable for students and researchers and anyone who just wants to learn more about the gay world.

You can make Wiki.PinkPaper.com even better by adding to it and updating the information, so log in and take part.

Pink Paper is owned by Millivres Prowler Group which also publishes AXM, DIVA, GT (formerly Gay Times) and Puffta and runs the Prowler and Expectations stores and brands. MPG has over 30 years experience in gay publishing and you can read more about the company and its history by visiting the corporate website at millivres.co.uk.

We hope this has been a useful introduction to your paper and website. If you and comments, just log in to Your.PinkPaper.com and have your say. If you have any questions, a story for us to investigate or you want to discuss how your company or organisation can work with us, you will find full contact details for our staff on this site at PinkPaper.com/contact.aspx.
